Postdoctoral Position in Information Management, IDHEAP

The Information Management Group at the Swiss Graduate School of Public Administration (IDHEAP) is offering a fully funded Postdoctoral Position for 4 years.

Postdoctoral Position in Information Management

Project background

The Internet of things (IoT), if purposefully used, may improve the well-being of an organization’s workforce or anticipate potential health and safety risks at work. At the same time, the use of IoT at the workplace is not unproblematic, since sensors create a massive data trail that organizations may harness and use for purposes other than occupational health or against the good of the personnel. This position is part of an interdisciplinary project funded by the Swiss National Science Foundation within the National Research Program on the Digital Transformation. Our aim is to investigate, from an information systems, legal, and ethical perspective the opportunities and risks when IoT is introduced in the workplace. We will perform analyses of the legal and ethical frameworks applicable to the general use of IoT for health and its compatibility with the fundamental rights anchored in the Swiss legal system. The applicant will conduct research concerning the design of safeguards and other approaches for increasing trust or reducing exaggerated resistance towards data-driven occupational health and safety programs.

Job description

We are looking for an enthusiastic postdoctoral researcher with a background in Information Systems or Computer Science (preferably with a minor in Management, Public Administration or Ethics). The work will focus on privacy-by-design of IoT in occupational health settings. The ideal candidate will also bring his/her own research questions to develop in the broad field of technology resistance or health IS. This is a fixed term, 100% position for 4 years with an anticipated start date in summer 2020. The successful candidate will join the Information Management Group led by Prof. Dr. Tobias Mettler and be part of the National Research Program on Digital Transformation.
